Match Highlights
Alessio Dionisi praised Luca Kjerrumgaard after his goal helped Watford secure a 1-1 draw against Wrexham on Saturday. The Danish striker, who was brought in to replace Mamadou Doumbia, headed the opener in the first half, while Danny Imray equalised for the hosts.
Watford kept their unbeaten start to the season under the Italian head coach’s watch, battling for a point at the Racecourse Ground. The match was a physical contest, with Wrexham described by Dionisi as a “good team” that “have a lot of experience.”
Academy graduate Amin Nabizada started for the club, and young full-back Albert Eames was introduced for his second senior appearance after Omar Traoré suffered a head clash and had to leave the field.
Manager’s Comments
In the first two Sky Bet Championship games, Watford have collected four points against teams that finished in the top seven last season, including a 2-1 win over Southampton. Dionisi said, “I’m very happy with this result. It was difficult for us to play against Wrexham, they are a good team, they are physical and they have a lot of experience.”
He added, “In the first half we played well and in the second half I am happy because we stayed compact and the defensive phase was good.”
The manager also highlighted the importance of the young players, noting that “we have a lot of young players in the team, and it wasn’t easy.”
Squad and Support
Dionisi thanked the sold-out away end for helping the Golden Boys secure their first point away from home since the 2-1 win over Bristol City in February. “It was fantastic to see a lot of supporters with us,” he said.
The match confirmed that the new line-up, featuring Kjerrumgaard, can deliver results against tough opposition, while the club’s focus on youth development continues to bear fruit.
