Watford supporters have formally declared a complete loss of confidence in owner Gino Pozzo. The 1881 Movement published an open letter following a heavy home loss, a result that left the club near the bottom of the Championship with a low points total from its opening matches.

Spokesman Roy Moore signed the letter, which was addressed directly to Pozzo. It stated the group's formal declaration of lost confidence in his ownership. The group's action comes after a series of heavy defeats, including a midweek loss, marking the team's fourth consecutive defeat in a run where they have let in many goals.

Letter cites managerial instability and poor results

The letter criticized frequent manager changes and constant disruption at the club. It argued that stability had been sacrificed, reducing a once-proud club to a source of ridicule. The group also pointed to the departure of long-serving staff members. It did acknowledge the successful years under Pozzo ownership, which included top-flight football, have not been forgotten.

Supporters demand honesty and transparency

Fans called for greater honesty and transparency from the ownership regarding the club's direction. The letter noted that the club is known to be open to offers of takeover or investment, a point the supporters highlighted as they seek clarity. This public demand for dialogue reflects the depth of concern after a poor start to the season with few wins and a concerning goal difference.

Club responds to fan concerns

A club spokesman said the owner welcomed the chance to openly discuss Moore's letter at a scheduled meeting. The spokesman added that Pozzo and everyone at the football club shares the disappointment of a legendary former chairman at the team's results. That former chairman had said he was very upset by the recent decline and felt for the supporters.

Former England striker Kevin Phillips said the fan reaction was understandable. He said it was no surprise the fans had had enough, noting the team had conceded many goals in its last two matches. Manager Alessio Dionisi is one of many permanent appointments since the Pozzo family took over, and one of numerous head coaches in a very short recent period.

The immediate focus turns to halting the slide on the pitch. Watford's next chance comes in a home match against Charlton.
