Watford have sold midfielder Shaan Sanghrajka to Queens Park Rangers. The 19-year-old academy graduate has moved to the Championship rivals for an undisclosed fee.
Sanghrajka's departure comes as Watford sit 9th in the Championship table with five points from their opening three games. The Hornets have a goal difference of +1, having scored four and conceded three. They are four points behind early leaders Charlton Athletic.
Shaan Sanghrajka joined Watford's Academy at the age of eight and progressed through the youth ranks. He signed his first professional contract with the club in July 2022. His senior debut came quickly, in an EFL Cup tie against MK Dons in August of that same year. That remains his only first-team appearance for Watford.
To gain experience, he spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Hampton & Richmond Borough. He made 37 appearances for the non-league side and scored two goals. That spell was important for his development before this permanent move.
The transfer to Queens Park Rangers was officially completed on July 1, 2024. Sanghrajka has signed a two-year contract with the west London club. The deal also includes an option for a further year, giving QPR future security. Watford did not disclose the financial terms of the sale.
This move ends an eleven-year association between the player and Watford. It represents a fresh start for the young midfielder in a new environment.
The squad is now preparing for their next Championship fixture, an away trip to face Swansea City on September 1st. Swansea currently sit 3rd in the table, making it a tough test. Watford's recent form reads DDW, showing a solid if unspectacular start.
While losing a long-term academy product, the move follows a common path for young players seeking regular football elsewhere. The funds from the undisclosed fee could be reinvested, but the immediate focus is on the league campaign. Fans can track the team's progress in the standings throughout the season.
Managerial and recruitment decisions will continue to shape the squad as they aim to close the gap to the top. The club's current position, four points off the summit, shows the league is tightly packed. Every point matters, starting with the challenge in Wales.
