Watford have sold creative midfielder Imran Louza to Greek side Panathinaikos and are set to sign striker Myron Boadu on transfer deadline day. The Hornets, currently 13th in the Championship with five points from four games, are active in the market while reflecting on a 1-1 home draw with West Ham United.
The BBC reported that Panathinaikos have signed Imran Louza for a fee around £7 million. The Moroccan international has agreed a four-year contract with the Greek Super League club. Louza, 27, was a key player for Watford last season, contributing seven goals and nine assists in 42 Championship matches. He was club captain until new head coach Alessio Dionisi named Mattie Pollock as skipper before this campaign. Louza joined Watford from Nantes in 2021 and made 81 appearances over the past two seasons. He did not feature in a competitive match this term.
Watford are set to finalise the signing of Dutch striker Myron Boadu. The deal is described as slightly complicated due to an option with former club PSV, but it is expected to go through. Boadu, who attended Saturday's draw with West Ham, brings experience from AZ Alkmaar, AS Monaco, and VFL Bochum. The 183 cm forward is known for his movement and pace but has faced injury setbacks in his career. His arrival follows the summer signings of Iker Bravo and Luca Kjerrumgaard, adding further competition up front.
West Ham United's official match report detailed a 1-1 draw in difficult conditions at Vicarage Road last Saturday. Watford took the lead in the 19th minute through a deflected effort from winger Amin Nabizada. The Hammers equalised before half-time when Watford captain Mattie Pollock scored an own goal under pressure from Taty Castellanos. The game was played in constant driving rain and wind, which affected the quality in both penalty areas. Watford's defence, which has conceded five goals this season, held firm in the second half to secure a point. The result leaves Watford with a goal difference of minus one after four matches.
The Watford Observer confirmed that defender Stephen Mfuni, who was on loan at the club last season, has joined Coventry City. Watford were interested in bringing the 18-year-old Manchester City player back on a loan deal this summer. Several other Championship clubs, including Derby County and Sheffield United, were also linked. Former head coach Ed Still was a big admirer, saying Mfuni's potential is "whatever he wants it to be, as simple as that." The teenager's move to the Premier League with Coventry ended Watford's hopes of a reunion. He played eight matches for the Hornets last term before an ankle injury ended his campaign.
Alessio Dionisi's side sits 13th in the Championship table, five points behind early leaders Swansea City. Their record reads one win, two draws, and one loss from their opening quartet of fixtures, with recent form of loss-draw-draw-win. The next challenge is an away trip to face 7th-placed West Bromwich Albion on September 5th. The club's activity in the transfer market, including Louza's departure and Boadu's anticipated arrival, aims to strengthen the squad for this challenge.
