Watford defender Marc Bola was a transfer target for Queens Park Rangers over the summer, but the move did not materialise before the window closed. The 28-year-old remained with the Hornets, where he recently signed a new contract extension running until 2030.
According to West London Sport reporter David McIntyre, who shared his insight via YouTube, Bola was a player QPR "really wanted." McIntyre stated, "One they really wanted was Bola at Watford. That was one that rumbled on and at one stage, it looked like that could be done." Instead, QPR opted to sign defenders Boy Kemper and Dennis Cirkin on free transfers.
Marc Bola joined Watford in June 2025 and has since made appearances for the club across all competitions. The left-back brings extensive Football League experience from previous spells at Notts County, Bristol Rovers, Blackpool, and Middlesbrough. His new long-term deal at Vicarage Road, which secures his future until the summer of 2030, signals the club's commitment to the player. Bola is currently listed on the club's injuries page as one of several sidelined players.
QPR's search for defensive reinforcements also led them to consider other targets. David McIntyre revealed, "The first was Harry Amass at Man United. Another was a Sheffield United player, not (Rhys) Norrington-Davies, but Harrison Burrows." Harrison Burrows, 24, stayed at Sheffield United, where he is under contract until 2028. He has made 96 appearances for the Blades, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists.
While this transfer story is now closed, Watford's current focus is on their Championship campaign. The squad is dealing with several absences, including Jeremy Ngakia, Kwadwo Baah, Marc Bola, Myron Boadu, and Soumaila Coulibaly.
Marti Cifuentes's side now prepares for their next Championship fixture, a home match against Preston North End on September 8. The failed move for Bola means QPR will face a Watford squad that retains a defender they actively pursued, with his contract at Vicarage Road running for another four years.
