Watford midfielder Edoardo Bove has released a documentary about his cardiac arrest and recovery. The film, titled 'In Un Battito' (In A Heartbeat), details the 24-year-old Italian's collapse on the pitch in December 2024 and his journey back to professional football.
Bove suffered the cardiac arrest on 1 December 2024 while playing for Fiorentina, on loan from Roma, in a Serie A match against Inter Milan. His heart stopped and he was resuscitated on the field before being taken to hospital. Doctors later implanted a cardiac defibrillator.
Italian law forces move
That device forced a career change. Italian law prohibits athletes with implanted cardiac defibrillators from playing professional sport, a rule that also saw Christian Eriksen leave Serie A. Bove's documentary explores the identity crisis this caused, centred on the question he asked himself: "Who am I without football?" The film, directed by Giovanni Troilo, is set for release in Italian cinemas.
His path led to Watford, where he has made seven appearances this season. The Hornets, currently 20th in the Championship with eight points from eight games, have struggled for form with just one win in their last five matches. Bove will hope to feature in the next fixture, a home game against 24th-placed Burnley on 10 October.
