Myron Boadu has signed for Watford as a free agent following the transfer deadline. The Dutch striker, who last played a senior match in February, joins a Hornets side sitting 17th in the Championship with eight points from seven games. The club's recent form has been inconsistent, with two wins, two draws, and three defeats from their opening seven fixtures.
He arrives with top-flight experience in the Netherlands, France and Germany, plus a senior international cap for the Netherlands he earned in 2019, scoring on his debut. Boadu spent last season with PSV Eindhoven, making 17 appearances as they won the Eredivisie title, and has featured in both the Champions League and Europa League.
Staff at Vicarage Road plan to ease the forward into action as he builds towards first-team football. The club's current squad shows several players sidelined, including Branimir Mlačić and Edoardo Bove.
Why Watford won the race
Boadu said he had multiple offers but was swayed by Watford's approach. "I had other options, but I also said in an interview earlier this summer that I wanted a club to come in with a good plan and to feel wanted," he explained.
The 25-year-old said the club's research and clarity were decisive. "From the first moment Watford expressed an interest in me, they were clear about how much they wanted me here," Boadu stated. He added that the club knew his recent history and playing style inside out, and presented a detailed plan for his return to full fitness and impact.
Adding to the attack
His main qualities are speed, strength and technical ability. Boadu believes a striker must be clinical and finish chances quickly, but he also stressed he does not get rattled by missed opportunities. He aims to score goals and add something to a squad he already views as strong.
Watford's attack has netted seven times this season, with Amin Nabizada leading the way with three goals. The team's recent fixtures show a mixed run, with a 2-1 win over Preston followed by a 1-2 home defeat to Stoke City last time out. Boadu's first opportunity to be involved comes quickly, with Watford's next fixture an away trip to face Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Friday, 18 September.
Boadu emphasised the importance of collective success, saying teammates must depend on each other as no one succeeds alone. He is focused on contributing to the team's objectives and helping improve their position in the league table.
